Of Place & A Paradox
by Zulfadhli Hilmi
Based on the Patani Art Space, Southern Thailand
Of Place and A Paradox is a prep-room project with Zulfadhli Hilmi around the ecologies that sprung from Patani Art Space in the recent years. This prep-room suggest frames in which an art community initiate and operate. These ideas situates the community that Patani Art Space builds upon and construct, encountering imaginaries of this liminal ecology whose components hope to be defined. The drive of this project is to gather these artists and community leaders to determine their own narratives, timelines, and practices.
Patani Art Space and the practices of the individual artists related to this community examines the way in which such ecologies mirrors and contributes to institutional and independent infrastructures in the region. In a way, such ecologies are fugitive agents in these opportunities of cooperation and collaboration. Of Place and A Paradox inquires on artistic ecologies forming social communities that operate on the threshold of regional and cultural histories, and how they currently construct provisional methods of making place.
